God of War foi o grande vencedor do The Game Awards. Apesar de ter ficado atras do concorrente Red Dead Redemption 2 no número de troféus (três GoW e qiatro para RDR2), o exclusivo de PlayStation 4 levou o maior prêmio da noite, sendo eleito o jogo do ano, além de ter vencido também os prêmios para Melhor Direção e Melhor Jogo de Ação ou Aventura.
O The Enemy fez parte do júri do The Game Awards pela segunda vez consecutiva e ajudou a escolher os melhores jogos do ano.
